March 2011

Countdown to the 202nd Otley Show ~ Saturday, 21st May

With only eight weeks to go to the 202nd Otley Show, we are hoping for record entries and that the weather seen at last year’s show, will once again favour us.

Classes are being held in Cattle, Sheep, Horses, Dogs, Rabbits, Poultry, Produce, Handicrafts and Pygmy Goats and schedules are now available.  These can be downloaded or by contacting Janet Raw, on 01943 462541.

The closing date for entries is the 16th April.

New for 2011 – a ‘Home-made Bottle of Beer’ Class.  This has been kindly sponsored by ‘The Old Cock’ which has recently been awarded the SPBW (Society for the Preservation of Beers in the Wood) Pub of the Season as well as an award by  CAMRA.  A pair of Tankards will be awarded to the winner of this class.

Attractions lined up for the 202nd  show include The Rockwood Dog Display Team, Yorkshire Military Marching Band, and The Sheep Show - a live stage show about sheep breeds and wool, including dancing sheep.

Last year, we had record temperatures and a record number of visitors with exhibits numbering over 3500 and prize money totalling £10,000.  We remain a highlight in the West Yorkshire town’s calendar, supporting the region’s farming and agricultural communities.

In addition, more than 100 trade stands and food outlets, plus up to 50 craft exhibitors, are expected to be in attendance.

Further details about the 2011 show are available from the Secretary Janet Raw at 15 Bridge Street, Otley,
